Experienced Chef Wanted!

We are seeking a hardworking and skilled chef with expertise in Chinese cuisine to join our team. The successful applicant must live in or relocate to Rotorua. 

As this is hospo, you must be available to work nights and weekends. We pride ourselves on maintaining a work-life balance and encourage out-of-work commitments and family time. However, please only apply if you understand that employment is a two-way street. 

We are looking for a team player who will uphold the food expectations our customers have come to expect from our well-established business. Now is not the time for averageness - all our customers deserve better than this; they are the lifeblood of our business. 

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Preparing all food items according to recipes and specifications. 

  • Measuring, mixing, and preparing meal ingredients, sauces, and seasonings.

  • Washing, chopping, and cutting fruit, meat, and vegetable items.

  • Planning menus and estimating labour costs

  • Training kitchen staff

  • Monitoring kitchen equipment and performance. 

  • Developing new dishes to complement the existing menus, incorporating the latest in Chinese cooking techniques.

  • Taking inventory of restaurant supplies and notifying the Head Chef when stock is low.

  • Controlling and rotating stock to minimise the risk of food waste and ensuring ingredients are in optimal condition.

  • Disposing of expired and spoiled food items stored in stock rooms, refrigerators, and freezers.

  • Cleaning and ensuring that all the workstations are organised and properly sanitised.

  • Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with guests and fellow workmates. 

Job Requirements and Skills:

  • 2+ years of full-time experience in preparing dishes. 

  • Good understanding and skills in Chinese cuisine.

  • Be passionate about food.

  • Enthusiastic and hardworking team player.

  • High integrity and honesty in all dealings.

  • Good understanding of food, health, and safety regulations.

  • Ability to learn while multitasking and working alongside fellow workmates. 

  • Ability to work under pressure in a high-volume and fast-paced environment,

  • Ability to communicate effectively,

  • Able to lift heavy items.

  • Able to work nights, holidays, and weekends.
