Chinese Takeaway Cook

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook a range of Chinese takeaway dishes such as stir-fries, noodles, fried rice, soups, and other traditional items.
• Perform preparatory tasks including washing, chopping, marinating, and mixing ingredients.
• Operate kitchen equipment including woks, steamers, rice cookers, and deep fryers.
• Monitor food quality, presentation, and portion size throughout preparation and service.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, and utensils.
• Conduct stocktakes and assist in ordering ingredients and supplies as needed.
• Ensure compliance with food safety and health regulations.
• Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team in a high-pressure environment.
• Provide guidance or assist with training new staff if required.
• Suggest improvements to kitchen workflow and menu options when appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

• Minimum 2years’ experience in cooking Chinese cuisine in a takeaway or fast-paced kitchen environment.
• Knowledge of traditional Chinese cooking techniques and ingredients.
• Ability to maintain food safety, hygiene, and quality standards under pressure.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Reliable, responsible, and able to work in a team.
• Flexibility to work across shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
• Relevant cookery qualification preferred but not mandatory with sufficient experience.
• Commitment to delivering consistently high-quality food and customer satisfaction.
