About the role:

 

Position/role: We are looking to hire 2x Chef for our team in Palmerston North.

 

Type of employment: This is a full-time, permanent position.

Place of work: Our restaurant is located at 155 Broadway Avenue Palmerston North, New Zealand.

Hours of work:

As this is a full-time employment, we guarantee a minimum of 30 hours of work per week with ordinary hours of work of maximum 45 per week.

Due to the nature of our business, we can be open 365 days of the year depending on factors such as the time of the year, events in the area and the weather. Flexibility is essential to the Employer and your hours of work are often dependant on the demands of the business and its operating hours.

 

As such, your hours, times and/or days of work may be determined by a roster The Employer may request that you work outside of or in addition to the rostered hours, times and/or days of work. If you work additional hours or outside of your agreed times and/or days of work, you will be paid for all additional hours worked.

 

 

 

 

 

Remuneration:

The hourly rate would range between NZ $28.00 to $35 per hour (depending on experience and skills).

Overtime (if any): Any additional hours worked, overtime above the usual hours of work per week, if required by the business would be mutually agreed with you in advance, and would be paid at the ordinary hourly rate.

Salary is paid weekly in the employee’s nominated New Zealand bank account.

If you are required by the Employer to work on a public holiday, you will be paid for the hours actually worked, at the rate of 1.5 times your relevant daily pay (calculated on an hourly basis).

 

Other terms and conditions of the proposed employment:

 

Ø Rest breaks and meal breaks as per the relevant New Zealand law

Ø Holidays and leave in accordance with the Holidays Act 2003.

Ø Annual leave of 4 weeks

Ø 10 days of sick leave

Ø Bereavement leave of 3 days (upon the death of an immediate family member e.g parents, child partner or spouse, grandparents, grandchildren, brother, sister, parents in law) and up to 3 day paid bereavement leave after the death of another person as set out in the Holidays Act 2003

Ø Family violence leave in accordance with the law

Ø Parental leave in accordance with the Parental Leave and Employment Protection Act 1987

Ø Work on public holiday entitlements in accordance with the relevant New Zealand law (Holidays Act 2003)

Ø unpaid (e.g. for jury duty or other service required by the law, or unpaid leave from work where we consider that to be appropriate and as agreed in advance)

Ø Compliance with required health and safety standards under the Health and Safety at Work Act

Ø Compliance with organization policies and rules

Ø Drug and alcohol testing if required

 

 

The purpose of the role and duties involved:

As a Chef in our establishment, your key tasks and responsibilities would include:

 

 

Ø Responsibility for the operation and organisation of the kitchen.

Ø Ensure that recipes and proportions are strictly adhered to, to ensure consistency, quality and cost control.

Ø Perform food preparation tasks in the kitchen.

Ø Impart knowledge, skills and training to kitchen staff to ensure high standards.

Ø Receive deliveries and put away stock.

Ø Spot check dishes as they leave the kitchen for establishment quality, presentation and temperature.

Ø Follow set policies to maintain standards for food safety in all food preparation areas.

Ø Follow set policies to maintain standards for health & safety at work in all food preparation areas.

Ø Ensure all equipment and work environments are operational.

Ø Order and maintain inventory to ensure efficient operations.

Ø Communicate with and support staff.

Ø Uphold morale in the kitchen.

Ø Ensure relationship between kitchen and front of house staff is of a high standard.

 

 

About you:

 

The ideal candidate for the role would need to meet the following requirements and have:

 

Ø A minimum of 2 year of relevant work experience as a Chef or in a similar, relevant and directly applicable role within the industry, or

Ø Formal culinary training or a relevant qualification in Hospitality/Culinary Arts if no previous relevant work experience is present
