We are a busy New Zealand owned company. We are looking for a skilled full-time/permanent
Senior Chef to manage our kitchen (especially in the absence of the Head Chef) for our authentic Turkish cafe and restaurant in Dunedin to
prepare delicious meals according to menu. This role has high levels of control.
About the job:
- 40 Hours Minimum Per Week. Hours and days of work may vary. You will work a
maximum of 45 hours per week. You will work Tuesday to Sunday. Hours will be
rostered. You may be required to work Monday.
- $27 to $32 per hour subject to experience.
- This is a full-time permanent role based in Otago.
- We make things from scratch and you will be expected to take control of the kitchen.
Responsibilities include:
- Overall responsibility for the kitchen’s daily operations in absence of the Head Chef
- Employs food safety best practices and makes sure that all kitchen staff members do the same
- Prepare and cook food according to customers' orders
- Ensure appealing plate presentation
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of both the kitchen & floor as required
- Oversee portion and waste controls of food areas as required
- Supervise Assistant Chefs and Kitchen Hands ensuring they fulfil their duties as required
- Check bookings and ensure details are accurate
- Order food supplies and cooking equipment as required
- Supervise cleaning and dishwashing as required
- Keep work areas clean and tidy, and adhere to health and safety standards
- Works quickly and accurately during busy periods, such as weekends and evenings
- Anything else as reasonably required
Experience/Attributes/Qualifications:
- You will need AT LEAST 3 years full-time relevant chef experience. Given we are a high-end Turkish cafe and restaurant with a dining area, your experience should ideally be in Turkish food with plating techniques.
- Food preparation, cooking and food presentation skills
- Understanding of hygiene and health and safety regulations
- Understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures
- Outstanding customer service skills
- Curiosity and desire to learn more
