We are looking for two Chefs for our Indian restaurant based in Whitianga.

This is a permanent full-time offer, and you will be required to work for minimum 30 hours per week. The pay rate for this role is $30.00 per hour.

Tasks and duties are:

  • Prepare and cook all types of North Indian and South Indian cuisines including Tandoori, Moghalai, Indo-Chinese cuisines.
  • Prepare food as per the dietary requirements of customers.
  • Check the freshness of food and ingredients.
  • Ensure the quality of meals are above standards at each stage of preparation.
  • Develop recipes and determine how to present dishes.
  • Develop and plan menus and daily specials.
  • Lead, mentor, train and manage kitchen staff.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of cooks and other food preparation workers.
  • Manage food costing and inventory.
  • Order kitchen food supplies as and when required.
  • Maintain standards for food storage, rotation, quality, and appearance.
  • Establish maintenance and cleaning schedules for equipment, storage, and work areas.
  • Participate in interview process and selection of kitchen staff.
  • Discuss food preparation issues with managers, or appropriate stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with food and safety regulations.

An ideal candidate would have the following attributes:

  • Minimum 3 years relevant work experience or tertiary qualification
  • Understanding of menu and recipe development techniques
  • Passionate about Indian food industry
  • Ability to develop signature dishes
