We are a well-established Indian restaurant located in Lower Hutt, Wellington, offering authentic Indian cuisine to a loyal and growing customer base. Due to increasing demand and continued business growth, we are seeking two dedicated Tandoor/Curry Chef to join our kitchen team.

About the Role

This is a full-time, permanent position offering a minimum of 30 hours per week, rostered across 6 days, including weekends, evenings, and public holidays. The role requires flexibility, a strong commitment to food quality, and adherence to hygiene and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  •         Planning menus and developing Indian dishes to suit customer preferences.
  •          Estimating food and labour costs and maintaining inventory control.
  •          Ordering food and supplies and liaising with suppliers.
  •          Preparing, cooking, and presenting high-quality Tandoor and Curry dishes.
  •          Monitoring food quality at all stages of preparation and service.
  •          Demonstrating cooking techniques and advising kitchen staff.
  •    Discussing food preparation with management and front-of-house staff enforcing hygiene and food safety regulations in line with NZ standards.
  •          Training and mentoring kitchen staff as required.
  •          Freezing, storing, and preserving food following proper procedures.
  •          Ensuring consistent presentation and performance during peak service hours.

 

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  •     Minimum 3 years’ of verifiable relevant experience or a relevant Level 4 (or higher) qualification in cookery or hospitality.
  •           Specialisation in Indian cuisine, particularly Tandoor or Curry preparation, is preferred.
  •         Good communication skills and the ability to follow kitchen systems and processes.
  •          Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing may be required.
  •          Applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
