Place of Work: beans n bites at Whangaparāoa, Auckland

Work hours: 30 hours weekly on roaster Monday to Saturday, between 6:30 am and 5:00 pm, Sunday, between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm. The Employer will roster actual hours to be worked from time to time.

Job Description:

Beans n Bites is looking for a talented and passionate Chef to join our busy kitchen. We are a café with a unique Chinese-fusion menu, featuring traditional Chinese dishes alongside café-style meals. Our key offerings include dumplings, Chinese-style noodles, buns, and other Asian-inspired items, which are central to our brand and customer experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and cook a variety of meals in accordance with recipes, menus, and customer preferences, focusing on our Chinese-fusion dishes and café-style items.
  • Assist in menu development, including testing and refining new dishes, considering seasonality, cost, and nutritional requirements.
  • Supervise and coordinate kitchen operations, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality food production.
  • Ensure strict adherence to food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels, order supplies, and manage stock rotation to maintain freshness and minimize waste.
  • Train and mentor junior kitchen staff or assistants in food preparation techniques, portion control, and kitchen procedures.
  • Oversee presentation, portioning, and plating of dishes to maintain consistent quality and appearance
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including equipment, utensils, and workstations

Requirements:

  • Minimum of two years’ experience working as a chef or cook in a professional kitchen
  • Experience preparing a variety of dishes, including dumplings, buns, noodles, and other traditional or fusion-style meals.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced kitchen environment and work under pressure.
  • Flexibility to work rostered shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Strong commitment to food hygiene, kitchen safety, and quality standards
