Chef – Indian Cuisine (Canterbury Region)

Pay Range: $25 – $35 per hour (depending on experience and skills)
About the Role
Himkhand Limited, a well-established Indian restaurant business in the Canterbury region, is looking for an experienced and passionate Chef to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a deep understanding of Indian cuisine, spices, and traditional cooking methods to showcase their expertise in an authentic culinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning menus and creating authentic Indian dishes.
- Estimating food and labour costs, and ordering food supplies.
- Monitoring the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation.
- Preparing and cooking a variety of Indian meals, including curries, tandoori dishes, and breads.
- Demonstrating techniques and advising on Indian cooking procedures.
- Explaining and enforcing hygiene and food safety regulations.
- Discussing food preparation and service matters with managers, dietitians, kitchen, and waiting staff.
- Freezing and preserving foods where required.
- Selecting, training, and mentoring kitchen staff.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience as a Chef in Indian cuisine OR a relevant New Zealand Register Level 4 (or higher) qualification.
- Strong knowledge of Indian cooking styles and spice applications.
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy kitchen environment.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
