Hotel Ashburton is a well-established and trusted hospitality destination in Mid-Canterbury. We offer quality accommodation, three unique dining venues, and extensive function and event facilities. With a busy kitchen serving guests across restaurants, bars, and large-scale events, we are committed to delivering high-quality food and excellent customer service.

We are currently seeking experienced and motivated Cooks to join our professional kitchen team.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, season, and cook a wide range of meals including à la carte dishes, bar snacks, and buffet options.

  • Ensure all meals meet presentation and quality standards in line with hotel expectations and food safety regulations.

  • Assist in menu planning, costing, and daily specials in collaboration with senior kitchen staff.

  • Monitor stock levels and manage inventory to minimize food wastage.

  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in food preparation areas, following food safety and health regulations.

  • Supervise and support junior staff or kitchen hands as required.

  • Work effectively as part of a fast-paced kitchen team across different food outlets within the hotel.

Skills, Experience and Requirements:

Applicants must meet at least one of the following:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant full-time experience as a Cook in a commercial kitchen setting
    OR

  • A relevant Cookery qualification at NZQF Level 4 or higher (or overseas equivalent)

Additional Requirements:

  • Sound knowledge of food hygiene, safety, and kitchen best practices

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with high attention to detail

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Flexibility to work a rotating roster including weekends, evenings, and public holidays

Hours of Work:

  • Minimum 30 hours per week guaranteed

  • Work is based on a rotating 7-day roster, including evening and weekend shifts

  • Additional hours may be available during busy periods


Pay and Benefits:

  • Hourly rate: $25.00 – $28.00 per hour (commensurate with experience)
