About the Role
As our Head Chef, you’ll oversee all aspects of kitchen operations—from menu development and food preparation to inventory control and team leadership. This role is not just about cooking delicious meals; it’s about inspiring a team, maintaining high standards, and driving innovation in fusion cuisine.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, train, and manage the kitchen team, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Prepare and cook a variety of Vietnamese and Thai dishes, ensuring quality, consistency, and timely service.
- Working unsupervised and supporting all sections across the restaurant.
- Approve all dishes before they leave the kitchen to maintain presentation and taste standards.
- Oversee food preparation, cooking, and plating to meet the highest culinary standards.
- Manage food inventory, including ordering, stocktaking, and minimizing waste.
- Develop and refine menu items that creatively blend Vietnamese and Thai flavors.
- Ensure full compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health regulations.
Report to: Employer / Appointed Manager
The right candidate:
- Minimum 1.5 years of experience or above in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Good knowledge of Vietnamese and Thai cuisines, with a flair for fusion cooking.
- High school qualification or above
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Communication skills to make everything flow as efficiently as possible
- Punctual, organised, reliable and able to work with others in and outside of our team
- Be flexible with guest requests, be driven and having a desire to progress
- Showing initiative and be able to juggle within a busy Kitchen environment.
- Have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.

The employment is on an ongoing basis. The role is based on an assured 30-hour working week carried out in Hastings. You will be required to work late nights, weekends and holidays.
