Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Chinese Chef responsible for preparing Chinese dishes, managing kitchen operations, and ensuring food quality. The ideal candidate should have solid culinary skills, extensive experience, and the ability to work independently while maintaining consistent food standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and cook a variety of Chinese dishes (Sichuan, Cantonese, and Northern-style) based on menu and seasonal ingredients.
• Ensure all dishes meet high standards of taste, portion, and presentation.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene according to New Zealand food safety regulations.
• Manage procurement, storage, and inventory of kitchen ingredients.
• Collaborate with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth operation.
• Assist with large group catering and Chinese tour meals.
• Supervise and train junior kitchen staff to maintain efficiency and consistency.
Qualifications & Skills
• Minimum three years of experience as a Chinese Chef in a restaurant or hotel environment.
• Strong knowledge of Chinese cuisine and cooking techniques (wok, steaming, braising, etc.).
• Ability to prepare sauces, marinades, and signature dishes independently.
• Knowledge of food hygiene and safety practices in commercial kitchens.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills, able to perform well under pressure.
