We are hiring for DC Sushi LTD, a popular restaurant located in the heart of Wellington. Our menu focuses on high-quality Japanese and Asian fusion cuisine. As our business grows, we are looking for experienced Cooks who are passionate about preparing fresh and flavourful food to join our kitchen team.

Employment Type:               Full-time, Permanent

Days Required:                     Needs to be available from Monday to Saturday, between 9:00am and   9:00pm (rostered shifts)

                                               May need to work during weekends or public holidays; 

Hourly Rate:                          $29.00 - $35.00

Hours per Week:                   Guaranteed minimum 30 hours per week. Up to 50 hours per week.

 

Key Responsibilities include:   

• Preparing, seasoning, and cooking dishes, particularly in Japanese and Asian fusion styles
• Operating ovens, grills, fryers, rice cookers, and other kitchen equipment to prepare food to order
• Ensuring food quality, presentation, and portion control meet company standards
• Storing food in temperature-controlled facilities and managing stock rotation
• Following food safety and hygiene standards in line with NZ regulations
• Meeting special dietary requirements as needed
• Assisting in estimating food quantities and planning menus where required
• Cleaning food preparation areas and maintaining kitchen equipment

 

Requirements for the applicants:

• Minimum 2 years’ experience as a chef, preferably in Asian cuisine (Chinese and/or Japanese)
• OR completion of a recognised culinary qualification or apprenticeship
• Strong skills in Chinese/Japanese cooking techniques and flavour balancing
• Sound knowledge of food safety and kitchen hygiene regulations in New Zealand
• Strong communication, leadership, and time management skills
• Physically fit and capable of working in a fast-paced kitchen environment
• Ability to attend an onsite interview preferred
