Position Title: Chef

Location: Auckland CBD, New Zealand

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Hours of Work: Minimum 35 hours per week, up to 45 hours per week

Roster: Monday to Sunday, between 10:00 am – 10:00 pm

Remuneration:NZD $27.76 – $28.00 per hour

Bao Baby Bao is a well-established Asian fusion restaurant located in the heart of Auckland, known for delivering high-quality food with consistent flavour, presentation, and creativity. Due to the business need to regularly design and execute Chef Specials and customised menu offerings, this role requires a qualified and experienced Chef 

About the role 

The successful candidate will be responsible for duties including but not limited to:

-       Preparing, cooking, and presenting a wide range of dishes using advanced culinary techniques such as marinating, seasoning, spicing, mixing, mincing, slicing, stuffing, and kneading

-       Cooking food using a variety of methods including frying, boiling, steaming, grilling, and stir-frying

-       Planning, developing, and implementing Chef Specials and seasonal menu items, ensuring consistency, quality, and creativity across service periods

-       Monitoring food quality at all stages of preparation and cooking to ensure high standards are maintained

-       Managing portion control, minimising food wastage, and ensuring cost efficiency

-       Participate in staff selection, mentoring, and training to build a strong kitchen team.

-       Ensuring food is stored and handled in accordance with food safety and temperature control requirements

-       Maintaining high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and workplace safety in compliance with New Zealand food safety regulations

-       ordering, receiving, and stock rotation of kitchen supplies when required

About You

-       At least two year of relevant experience OR

-       Diploma in Cookery

-       Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and kitchen operations

-       Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced hospitality environment

-       Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team

-       A passion for food quality, consistency, and innovation

-       Willingness to comply with workplace health, safety, and hygiene requirements
