About the Role

We are currently seeking multiple Chefs to join our dynamic team. If you’re someone who thrives in a busy kitchen environment, enjoys crafting authentic Thai dishes, and takes pride in delivering quality food to customers, we’d love to hear from you!

 

  • Position: Chef
  • Employment type: Full-time, Permanent
  • Remuneration: $30.00 – $35.00 per hour
  • Location: This role requires the successful candidate to work across both Dunedin and Christchurch locations.
  • Hours of work: Minimum of 30 hours per week
  • Working days & times: 7 days per week, rostered shifts between 6 AM – 5 AM

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Planning and organising the preparation and cooking of food in the restaurant.
  • Ensuring food is prepared and presented to a high standard.
  • Monitoring and managing food quality, portion control, and consistency.
  • Creating and developing menu items, recipes, and daily specials.
  • Supervising and training kitchen staff and ensuring kitchen operations run efficiently.
  • Managing food stock and supplies, including ordering ingredients and checking deliveries.
  • Ensuring compliance with food hygiene, safety regulations, and kitchen cleanliness standards.
  • Maintaining cost control through effective management of inventory, waste, and food preparation processes.
  • Adapting dishes for dietary restrictions and special customer requests.
  • Collaborating with restaurant management on planning, kitchen procedures, and customer satisfaction.
  • May require performing additional tasks outside this list.

 

About You


To be successful in this role, you will have one of the following:

  • At least two years of relevant experience working in a similar business environment (experience in a similar business environment preferred), OR
  • A certificate in cookery, hospitality, or a related field, OR
  • A Bachelor’s qualification in any field, demonstrating your ability to acquire, apply, and adapt complex knowledge and skills to a professional kitchen environment.

A Bachelor’s degree is considered suitable for this role because it reflects strong transferable skills — such as discipline, problem-solving, organisation, and the ability to learn and apply structured methods. These skills are highly valuable in a busy kitchen, where efficiency, consistency, and the ability to adapt to fast-changing demands are essential.

  • The ability to work effectively under pressure in a high-demand kitchen.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including work early mornings, late nights, weekends, and public holidays as required
  • Strong communication skills, reliability, and a positive work ethic.
  • A team-oriented approach.
