We are currently seeking a full-time Chef to lead daily kitchen operations and support the growing demand of our business. The position is permanent, with a minimum of 30 hours per week. The hourly pay rate is between NZD 28 – 35. Workdays will be on the roster and the core hours of work will be 8 hours between 10am – 10pm Tuesday to Saturday.
Your duties will include:
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily kitchen operations, planning food preparation and cooking to ensure efficient service and consistent quality
- Prepare and cook all menu items including marinated fried chicken, house flavours, rice dishes, sides and meal combinations
- Develop and maintain cooking methods, seasoning standards and presentation for all dishes
- Monitor food quality throughout preparation and service to ensure freshness, taste and appearance meet standards
- Train and demonstrate cooking techniques to cooks and kitchen staff, ensuring consistency and proper food handling
- Oversee kitchen workflow, allocating tasks and supporting staff during busy service periods
- Manage ingredient usage, stock levels and food ordering to support smooth kitchen operations and control costs
- Maintain high standards of food safety, cleanliness and hygiene across the kitchen
- Ensure proper storage, handling and preservation of ingredients in line with food safety requirements
Requirements for the position:
- At least two years of relevant work experience working in a commercial kitchen or restaurant environment.
- A relevant qualification in cookery will be an advantage but not compulsory
- Strong understanding of food preparation, cooking techniques, kitchen operations, and food safety standards
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment while maintaining consistent food quality
- Good communication and teamwork skills, with experience in training staff and managing stock levels preferred
