Baker/ Pastry Cook

We are looking for a motivated and reliable bakery/pastry cook to join our team in Rotorua, Bay of Plenty.

This is a guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week position, with an hourly rate between $30.00 and $35.00, depending on experience.

You will ensure the smooth and efficient daily operation of the restaurant. You will lead by example, deliver outstanding customer service, and help create a positive and professional working environment for all staff.

Job duties

• Checking the cleanliness of equipment and premises

• Ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations

• Checking the quality of raw materials and weighing ingredients

• Kneading, maturing, cutting, moulding, mixing, and shaping dough and pastry goods

• Preparing pastry fillings

• Monitoring oven temperatures and product appearance to determine baking times

• Coordinating the forming, loading, baking, unloading, de-panning, and cooling of bread, rolls, and pastry products

• Glazing buns and pastries, and decorating cakes with cream and icing

• Operating machines that roll and mould dough or cut biscuits

• Emptying, cleaning, and greasing baking trays, tins, and other equipment

• Preparing a variety of café-style dishes such as breakfasts, light meals, sandwiches, salads, and cabinet food

• Preparing ingredients, sauces, and garnishes for daily service

• Managing food rotation, storage, and labelling to maintain freshness and reduce waste

• Ensuring all cooked items meet presentation standards

• Assisting with menu development, including new baked goods and café dishes

• Maintaining a clean and organised kitchen during service

• Supporting front-of-house staff with food-related queries

Key Skills

Good fast paced with best baking/pastry making/cooking skills.

Experience in hospitality industry

Excellent customer service skills.

Knowledge of health and safety regulations.

Good communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.

Qualification and Experience

Relevant qualification at level 4 and above or at least two years of relevant experience
