Position Title: Chef
Location: New Lynn, Auckland, New Zealand
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours of Work: Minimum 30 hours per week, up to 50 hours per week
Roster: Monday to Sunday, between 10:00 am – 10:00 pm
Remuneration: NZD $24.00 – $28.00 per hour
About the role
• Prepare, cook, and present a broad range of dishes, applying advanced techniques such as marinating, seasoning, spicing, mixing, mincing, slicing, stuffing, and kneading.
• Cook using multiple methods, including frying, boiling, steaming, grilling, and stir-frying.
• Plan, develop menu by periodically reviewing, updating, and refining dishes to suit business needs, customer preferences, and kitchen operations, while maintaining consistency and quality.
• Check and maintain food quality throughout preparation and cooking to ensure high standards are consistently met.
• Control portions, reduce food waste, and support cost-effective kitchen operations.
• Assist with staff recruitment, and provide mentoring and training to help build a capable kitchen team.
• Store and handle food in line with food safety requirements, including temperature control standards.
• Maintain excellent hygiene, cleanliness, and workplace safety in accordance with New Zealand food safety regulations.
• Support ordering, receiving, and stock rotation of kitchen supplies as required.
About You
• Minimum two years of relevant experience in a restaurant or any hospitality related venue, or
• A Diploma in Cookery.
• Solid understanding of food preparation, cooking techniques, and overall kitchen operations.
• Able to perform well under pressure in a busy, fast-paced hospitality setting.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
• Strong commitment to food quality, consistency, and creative menu execution.
• Willing to follow workplace health, safety, and hygiene standards.
