Tandoor & Curry Chef (All-Rounder)

Talk of India Restaurant in Tauranga is looking for an experienced Tandoor and Curry Chef (All-Rounder) to join our busy kitchen team. The ideal candidate must have strong experience in both tandoor cooking and Indian curry preparation, and be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and cook a wide range of Indian curries, gravies, and traditional dishes.

Operate the tandoor oven and prepare items such as naan, roti, kebabs, and other tandoori dishes.

Work with the team to undertake menu planning and development.

Determine quantities to be cooked and ensure appropriate portion sizes are served.

Ensure adequate stock levels of fresh, frozen, and dried food items are maintained.

Allocate and oversee the work of junior kitchen staff, including monitoring cleaning schedules.

Ensure food expenditure is kept within budget.

Maintain high standards of food preparation, presentation, and consistency.

Ensure all food is produced according to restaurant quality standards and local council regulations.

Understand and follow responsibilities relating to fire procedures, health and safety, food hygiene, and emergency procedures.

Maintain a clean and organised kitchen environment.
Requirements:

Minimum 3 years’ experience working in an Indian restaurant kitchen.

Proven experience working in both tandoor and curry sections.

Ability to work in a busy kitchen environment and under pressure.

Good knowledge of Indian spices, flavours, and cooking techniques.

Must be physically fit and able to handle the demands of a commercial kitchen.

Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

Applicants may be required to pass a drug test and have a clear criminal record, depending on business requirements.

Basic English communication skills required. Knowledge of Nepali, Hindi, or Punjabi would be an advantage.
