SUNDAYS is a warm and welcoming neighbourhood restaurant set in a beautifully restored 1933 church, serving up Italian-inspired food (we ❤️ pizza), handcrafted cocktails and genuine hospitality in Country Lane, Queenstown. We’re on the hunt for a Head Chef to lead our kitchen team. This is a pivotal role for someone with proven leadership experience, a passion for Italian flavours, and the ability to balance creativity with strong commercial acumen.

We’re known for our community vibe, our commitment to simple done well, and a team culture grounded in collaboration, kai-zen (continuous improvement), and having a damn good time doing what we do.
 
We’re on the hunt for a Head Chef to lead our kitchen team. This is a pivotal role for someone with proven leadership experience, a passion for Italian flavours, and the ability to balance creativity with strong commercial acumen.
 
This is a permanent position, offering a minimum of 30 and maximum of 45 hours per week. 

Job Duties: 
  • Lead, inspire, and mentor the kitchen team, fostering a positive, high-performing culture that aligns with SUNDAYS’ values and standards
  • Manage kitchen financial performance, including food and labour costs, menu engineering, ordering, and supplier relationships to achieve agreed targets
  • Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality dishes with excellent presentation, maintaining standards even during busy service periods
  • Oversee kitchen organisation and systems, including prep planning, stock management, and processes that support smooth and efficient service
  • Work collaboratively with the wider leadership team to deliver strong financial results while maintaining an outstanding guest experience
  • Lead service with a calm, solutions-focused approach, maintaining composure and clear decision-making in a fast-paced environment
You must have:
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a senior kitchen role, ideally as a Head Chef or Sous Chef ready to step up
     
  • The right to work in New Zealand
