About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Chef to join our kitchen team. This role involves taking responsibility for a kitchen section and producing consistently high-quality café and breakfast dishes while supporting the smooth daily operation of the kitchen.

You will work closely with management and the wider kitchen team to maintain food quality, efficiency, and hygiene standards. This position suits someone who enjoys early starts, thrives in a busy service environment, and takes pride in well-presented, flavourful food.

There are no night shifts, and the role offers a stable and consistent roster.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and present dishes to a high standard

  • Plan menus and develop new dishes in collaboration with management

  • Manage and oversee a designated kitchen section

  • Monitor food quality at all stages of preparation and service

  • Supervise and support junior kitchen staff

  • Maintain food safety, hygiene, and health and safety standards

  • Manage stock levels and assist with ordering supplies

  • Assist with food costing, waste control, and portion control

  • Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient kitchen environment

  • Coordinate workflow during busy service periods


Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience as a Chef in a café or similar environment

  • NZ Certificate in Cookery (Level 3 or higher), or equivalent overseas qualification

  • Strong cooking skills and ability to work efficiently under pressure

  • Experience supervising or supporting junior staff

  • Reliable, organised, and positive team attitude

  • Ability to work weekends on a rotating roster
