Te Whaanga Retreat & Spa is a sanctuary nestled amidst the breathtaking natural beauty of Raglan, New Zealand.

We are seeking an experienced Chef for Western and Eastern cuisine. Ideally, the candidate is experienced in Japanese cuisine. Being able to speak Japanese is an advantage.

Role Purpose

 

The Chef is responsible for planning, preparing, cooking, and presenting high-quality Western and Asian cuisine in a hotel and restaurant dining environment. Reports directly to the Business Owner.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

- Prepare and cook Western and Asian dishes including breakfast, lunch, cabinet food, and specials.

- Apply baking, grilling, roasting, sautéing, stir-frying, steaming, and sauce preparation techniques.

- Maintain consistency in food quality, portioning, and presentation.

- Assist with menu planning and seasonal updates.

- Monitor stock levels, control waste, and support food cost management.

- Ensure compliance with Food Control Plans and NZ food safety regulations.

- Guide and support junior kitchen staff.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Chef.

- Proven experience in Western and Asian cuisine.

Pre-employment Requirements

 - Must be able to provide a satisfactory Ministry of Justice (MOJ) criminal record check.

- Must be drug-free and willing to undergo pre-employment and random drug testing if required.
