Frederic's Bar & Restaurant, New Plymouth, is seeking an experienced Chef to lead kitchen operations in a contemporary dining environment. The role involves menu development, food preparation, team supervision, and ensuring compliance with food safety standards. A minimum of three years' Chef experience or an NZQF Level 4 Cookery qualification is required. This is a full-time position offering $29.66–$32.00 per hour, with evening and weekend availability essential.

The Role
We're looking for an experienced Chef to take ownership of our kitchen — someone who brings both technical skill and leadership to the pass. This isn't just a cooking role. You'll play a central part in how our kitchen runs: shaping menus, guiding the team, and upholding the standards that define the Frederic's experience.
What You'll Be Doing
- Plan, develop, and update menus in line with seasonal availability and guest preferences
- Prepare and cook a diverse range of dishes to a consistently high standard
- Oversee food preparation, ensuring quality, taste, and presentation are always on point
- Supervise and coordinate kitchen staff, including cooks and kitchen hands
- Train and mentor junior team members, building consistency and confidence across the kitchen
- Monitor portion control, minimise wastage, and actively manage food costs
- Manage stock levels and coordinate supply ordering and inventory control
- Ensure full compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health regulations
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised kitchen environment at all times
- Collaborate with management to drive kitchen efficiency and continuous improvement
- Lead the kitchen through high-pressure service periods with composure and precision
What We're Looking For
- NZQF Level 4 qualification in Cookery, or a minimum of three years' relevant experience as a Chef
- Solid understanding of kitchen operations, food safety standards, and hygiene compliance
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage kitchen staff
- Experience in menu planning and food cost management
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced bar and restaurant environment
- Strong communication skills and a natural ability to lead
