We’ve been part of the Remuera community for over 20 years — known and loved for our cozy vintage vibe, friendly faces, and classic Kiwi flavours . Because our pastry cook has resigned, we now need to hire a cooks to meet our daily operations and catering service needs.

Work location: Auckland

Rate: $25-$30.00

Work hour: Minimum 30 hours/week guaranteed

 

Job descriptions:

  • Key Duties and Responsibilities – Cafe Cook

    1. Prepare, cook, season, and present a variety of café-style meals, breakfast dishes, brunch items, sandwiches, salads, cabinet food, and other menu items.

    2. Examine ingredients and food products to ensure freshness, quality, and suitability before preparation and cooking.

    3. Regulate the temperature of ovens, grills, fryers, stoves, and other cooking equipment to ensure food is cooked safely and consistently.

    4. Prepare ingredients for daily service, including washing, cutting, slicing, mixing, marinating, weighing, portioning, and storing food items.

    5. Cook food using appropriate cooking methods, including grilling, frying, baking, boiling, roasting, poaching, and steaming.

    6. Portion, arrange, and present meals and cabinet food in accordance with the café’s portion control and presentation standards.

    7. Prepare café cabinet food and ready-to-serve items such as muffins, scones, pies, quiches, pastries, wraps, sandwiches, rolls, and salads as required.

    8. Assist with planning menus, daily specials, and seasonal food offerings based on customer demand, ingredient availability, and cost control.

    9. Monitor food stock levels, assist with ordering supplies, and receive, check, rotate, and store food deliveries properly.

    10. Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of kitchen areas, food preparation surfaces, cooking equipment, utensils, and storage areas.

    11. Follow food safety and hygiene procedures, including correct food storage, temperature control, allergen awareness, safe food handling, and cleaning schedules.

    12. Minimise food wastage by controlling portions, rotating stock, using ingredients efficiently, and following first-in-first-out procedures.

    13. Work with front-of-house staff to ensure customer orders are prepared accurately, efficiently, and within reasonable service times.

    14. Train and guide kitchen hands or junior staff in basic food preparation, kitchen routines, hygiene practices, and safe use of equipment.

    15. Report kitchen equipment faults, supply shortages, food quality issues, and workplace health and safety concerns to management.

We operate from Monday to Sunday, we currently have a cook waiting to pass on his knowledge on how to efficiently run the cafe for your first few weeks before they move on. 

This is a fun, fast paced job that's ideal for people who like a challenge and strive to do the best they can. We require someone who is enthusiastic, reliable and passionate about delivering quality products and service to customers.
