Desai and Company Limited is seeking a skilled and experienced Chef to manage kitchen operations at our takeaway outlet in Auckland. The role focuses on preparing high-quality fast food and takeaway items, including fried chicken, burgers, pizzas, combo meals, and selected Indian dishes, while ensuring efficiency, consistency, and food safety.

Key Responsibilities
Plan and develop menus in consultation with management, including fried chicken meals, burgers, pizzas, combo deals, and takeaway items
Prepare and cook a variety of foods such as fried chicken, burgers (fillet, supreme, maxi), pizzas, wraps, chips, and combo meals
Incorporate selected Indian offerings such as curries, biryanis, and snacks where required
Prepare a range of pizzas, including dough preparation, topping selection, baking, and presentation
Monitor food quality, portion control, and presentation standards
Estimate food and labour costs and manage inventory and supply orders
Supervise and train kitchen staff in food preparation and cooking techniques
Ensure efficient kitchen operations during peak takeaway hours
Maintain cleanliness and food hygiene standards in compliance with New Zealand regulations
Manage storage, freezing, and preservation of food items
Coordinate with front-of-house staff to ensure timely order preparation and delivery
Assist in creating promotional deals and meal combinations

Additional Duties
Discuss food preparation and operational matters with management and staff
Enforce hygiene and safety regulations
Assist with staff rostering and workflow management
Monitor stock levels and ensure timely replenishment

Qualifications & Experience
NZQF Level 4 Diploma in Cookery/related field, or any field
OR
Minimum 2 years of relevant full-time experience in a commercial kitchen (takeaway/fast food or pizza/Indian cuisine preferred)

Skills & Attributes
Experience in fast food and takeaway preparation (fried chicken, burgers, pizzas, combo meals)
Knowledge of Indian cuisine (desirable but not mandatory)
Ability to prepare and bake pizzas using commercial ovens
Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment including deep fryers, grills, and ovens
Strong leadership, time management, and communication skills
Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays
Full and clean driver's licence
