We are looking for two skillful Chefs to manage our kitchen and produce a wide range of Western favourites. You will be responsible for both hands-on food production and overseeing daily kitchen operations to maintain the high standards of quality expected at our venue. Experience in developing Asian fusion dishes would be an advantage.
Location: North Shore, Auckland, New Zealand
Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: At least 30 hours per week. We primarily operate from afternoon to midnight, the successful applicants must be available to work rostered shifts during these hours (Monday – Sunday), including weekends and public holidays.
Wage: from $28 to $37 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook food in accordance with recipes, customer orders, and quality standards.
- Set up the kitchen with the necessary utensils, equipment, and ingredients.
- Modify recipes where appropriate to accommodate customers’ dietary requirements and preferences.
- Oversee the simultaneous preparation of multiple dishes, ensuring all food is presented to a high standard and served consistently in a timely manner.
- Update menus and develop new seasonal menu options in line with current trends and customer demand, including testing recipes and introducing new ingredients.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to cooks and other kitchen staff, and communicate daily specials to front-of-house staff to discuss specials and service improvements.
- Train new kitchen staff and ensure they understand recipes, kitchen procedures, food safety standards, and quality expectations.
- Monitor the freshness and quality of ingredients.
- Manage food cost in line with the kitchen budget, ensure stock records are accurate and place orders as required.
- Implement and maintain the Food Control Plan, ensuring strict compliance with all Health & Safety, food hygiene, and kitchen cleanliness standards.
Required skills, knowledge, experience and qualification:
- Ability to remain calm with leadership and undertake various tasks.
- Excellent time management ability.
- Have Either:
- A minimum of 18 months of relevant experience in a professional, fast-paced kitchen environment; or
- A Relevant NZQF Diploma in Cookery
