Well established Sushi Corner Japanese Restaurant in Otorohanga is looking for an experienced chef of Japanese cuisine

Current vacant position: 1

This is a full time, permanent position with guaranteed weekly working hours of 30 hours. We will offer the wage from $32.00 - $35.00 per hour based on your experiences and skills.

Vocational Training in Cookery and relevant experience in Japanese/Korean foods are essential.

Key points of experience we are looking for:

  • Must have at least 3 years of work experience in a commercial kitchen including a minimum 2 years of work experience in Japanese and/or Korean cuisine
  • Have a Cookery training at Level 4 or higher
  • Have good knowledge and skills in cooking Japanese/Korean cuisine, sauces, and food ingredients
  • Having a good knowledge of handling seafood and Asian ingredients
  • Ability to make foods on time
  • Ability to work under pressure without supervision
  • Good kitchen management and time organization skills under pressure including stocktaking and placing order
  • Good communicator
  • Innovative ideas and enthusiasm for food
  • Flexibility on working hours/ability to work weekends
  • High standard of knowledge of food hygiene and safety

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Preparing the highest quality of foods and standard of services to ensure the customers’ satisfaction
  • Preparing and cooking food items
  • Menu planning and costing
  • Monitoring the quality of raw and cooked food products to restaurant standards
  • Ordering and storing
  • Food Control Plan knowledge
  • Enforcing food hygiene, health and safety including cleaning schedules
  • Managing food storage and preservation
