We are a newly established Chinese restaurant in Queenstown, Otago, specializing in a diverse range of authentic Chinese dishes. Our goal is to provide customers with high-quality food, excellent service, and a memorable dining experience.

To support our upcoming opening and future growth, we are seeking an experienced Chef with strong Chinese cooking skills to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing our kitchen operations and maintaining the high standards that our restaurant aims to achieve.

The role will include, but not limited to:

  • Preparing, cooking and presenting a wide range of authentic Chinese dishes in accordance with restaurant standards.

  • Planning and developing menus, including seasonal and regional Chinese specialties, while considering food costs and ingredient availability.

  • Creating and refining recipes to maintain quality, consistency and customer satisfaction.

  • Overseeing daily kitchen operations to ensure efficient food preparation and service.

  • Coordinating and supervising kitchen staff and providing guidance where required.

  • Training kitchen staff in food preparation techniques, cooking methods and presentation standards.

  • Monitoring food quality, portion control and presentation to ensure consistency.

  • Managing inventory of food supplies and kitchen equipment and placing orders as required.

  • Ensuring all food is prepared and stored in compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations.

  • Maintaining a clean, safe and organized kitchen environment.

  • Keeping up to date with industry trends and customer preferences to support menu development.

  • Receiving customer feedback and implementing improvements where appropriate.

  • Assisting with other duties reasonably required to support restaurant operations and provide excellent customer service.

Job pre-requisites: 

  • At least 2 years of cooking experience 

  • Relevant cookery qualification or certificate is preferable but not a must

  • Reliable, friendly and professional manner 

  • Have a strong focus on food hygiene and cleanliness.
