P&G NZ Limited is currently seeking an experienced Cook for a full-time permanent position at Sydenham Souvlaki, our Greece fast food take away business based in Canterbury.

Job Description:

The Cook will be responsible for preparing and cooking authentic Greece take away with a tandoori touch, while maintaining high standards of food quality, food safety, hygiene, and efficient kitchen operations. The successful applicant will prepare traditional Greece dishes combined with tandoori-style cooking techniques to deliver unique flavours, consistency, and quality to customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and cooking a variety of Greece dishes with tandoori influence, including souvlaki, grilled items, tandoori-style meats, takeaway meals, and other traditional food items according to established recipes.
  • Preparing marinades, spice blends, sauces, and seasoning mixes using traditional methods to achieve authentic flavours.
  • Marinating meats and preparing ingredients using tandoori-style techniques to ensure quality, taste, and consistency.
  • Assisting with menu planning and suggesting new dishes based on seasonal ingredients and customer preferences.
  • Monitoring food quality at all stages of preparation, cooking, and presentation.
  • Operating kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including grills, ovens, tandoor ovens, fryers, and other specialised cooking equipment.
  • Regulating cooking temperatures and ensuring proper cooking techniques are followed.
  • Ensuring all food is prepared and presented in a timely manner during busy service periods.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of kitchen areas, utensils, and equipment in compliance with New Zealand food safety standards.
  • Storing food items correctly in temperature-controlled facilities and maintaining proper stock rotation using FIFO principles.
  • Inspecting raw ingredients for freshness, quality, and suitability before use.
  • Assisting with ordering supplies, managing stock levels, and minimising food wastage.
  • Following workplace health and safety procedures and food hygiene regulations.
  • Assisting in training junior staff and kitchen hands as required.

Skills, Qualification & Experience:

  • Relevant Level 4 cookery qualification OR
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant cooking experience.
  • Experience in preparing Greece take away, grilled food, or tandoori-style dishes is preferred.
  • Knowledge of marination techniques, spice preparation, and specialised cooking methods.
  • Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene practices, and kitchen operations.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a busy takeaway environment.
