We are seeking a skilled and experienced Pastry Chef to join our bakery café in Waikanae. This is a fulltime, permanent position responsible for producing highquality pastries, desserts, and baked goods for daily service.

Hours: 35–45 hours per week (early mornings required)

Role Purpose

The Pastry Chef is responsible for preparing, baking, and finishing a wide range of pastries, desserts, and bakery items to a consistent, high standard. The role supports daily café production, wholesale orders, catering, and fundraising programmes. The Pastry Chef must maintain excellent food safety, efficiency, and creativity in a fastpaced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Produce daily pastries, desserts, cakes, slices, tarts, quiches, and specialty bakery items

Prepare Pastry sheets, batters, fillings, glazes, and creams according to recipes and quality standards

Operate commercial bakery equipment safely (mixers, ovens, sheeters, blast chillers, etc.)

Maintain strict food safety and hygiene standards under the Food Act 2014 and Food Control Plan

Manage daily production schedules and meet deadlines for café service and catering orders

Decorate and finish products with professional presentation and consistency

Monitor stock levels, rotate ingredients, and assist with ordering

Develop new products, seasonal specials, and fundraising items when required

Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient pastry section

Work collaboratively with the kitchen and frontofhouse team

Train junior staff when required

Skills & Experience Required

Minimum 4 years fulltime professional pastry or bakery experience or NZQF Level 3 or higher qualification.

Strong technical skills in pastry, desserts, doughs, and bakery production

Experience in highvolume production is an advantage

Knowledge of food safety, allergen management, and hygiene standards

Good communication and teamwork skills

Ability to work early mornings and meet daily production targets
