HENDY ENTERPRISES LIMITED runs a café business in Auckland under the trading name Ginger Crunch Cafe. We are looking for two reliable and motivated Sous Chefs to join our kitchen team to support the planned expansion of dinner menu options.
The successful candidates will work at Ginger Crunch Cafe, located at 2 Railway Street, Helensville, Auckland.
Responsibilities include:
The successful applicant will be required to:
• Assist the Head Chef in managing the daily kitchen operations.
• Work closely with the Head Chef to plan menus, develop recipes, and improve existing dishes.
• Prepare, cook and present meals and other menu items in accordance with the menu, recipes and quality standards.
• Supervise kitchen staff during food preparation and service to ensure meals are prepared efficiently and consistently.
• Allocate tasks to kitchen staff and provide guidance, training and support where required.
• Check food quality, presentation, portion sizes, and consistency before dishes are served to customers.
• Monitor stock levels, assist with ordering ingredients, and ensure proper storage of food supplies.
• Ensure all food is prepared and stored in compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health and safety requirements.
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, equipment and food preparation areas.
• Assist in controlling food wastage, kitchen costs, and efficient use of ingredients.
• Step in and manage the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef.
• Report kitchen issues, equipment faults, staffing needs, or stock shortages to the Head Chef or business owner.
What We're Looking For:
Applicants must have at least one of the following:
• At least 1 year of relevant work experience; or
• A relevant qualification at NZQF Level 4 or above, or an equivalent overseas qualification
Applicants should also have:
• Practical cooking skills and the ability to work efficiently in a busy kitchen environment.
• Good knowledge of food preparation, food safety, hygiene and cleanliness standards.
• Good attention to detail and the ability to maintain consistent food quality and presentation.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a kitchen and service team.
• Reliability, punctuality, a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
• The ability to work rostered shifts, including weekends, public holidays, early mornings and evenings if required.
• Experience preparing Vietnamese dishes would be advantageous, as the business is planning to expand its dinner menu options.
