About the Role

Bawarchi New Zealand Limited is seeking an experienced and reliable Cook to join our busy restaurant team. The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing high-quality dishes, maintaining food safety standards, and supporting the smooth operation of the kitchen.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook meals according to the restaurant’s recipes and quality standards.

  • Prepare ingredients, including washing, cutting, marinating, and portioning food.

  • Cook a variety of Indian dishes, including curries, tandoori dishes, rice dishes, breads, snacks, and other menu items.

  • Ensure all meals are prepared and presented consistently and on time.

  • Monitor the quality and freshness of ingredients.

  • Assist with planning menus and estimating food requirements.

  • Maintain appropriate portion sizes and minimise food waste.

  • Store food and ingredients safely in accordance with food safety requirements.

  • Monitor stock levels and notify management when supplies need to be ordered.

  • Keep kitchen equipment, workstations, utensils, and storage areas clean and hygienic.

  • Follow all health and safety, food hygiene, and workplace policies.

  • Assist with training and supervising kitchen assistants when required.

  • Work effectively with chefs, kitchen staff, and front-of-house employees.

  • Perform opening and closing kitchen duties as required.

  • Must be able to cook Hyderabad dum-style    biryani and desserts

  • Cook unsupervised 

  • Bulk and catering cooking 

Skills and Experience

The successful applicant should have:

  • Relevant Experience or a relevant qualification.

  • Working hours 30 hours per week and pay rate $25 to $30 Per hour

  • Good knowledge of food preparation, cooking methods, and kitchen hygiene.

  • The ability to work efficiently in a busy and fast-paced environment.

  • Strong time-management and organisational skills.

  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • A positive attitude and a commitment to maintaining high food-quality standards.

Work Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be available to work evenings, weekends, public holidays, and split shifts when required.

  • Be physically fit and able to stand for extended periods.

  • Be reliable, punctual, and able to work under pressure.

  • Have the legal right to work in New Zealand or be eligible to obtain an appropriate work visa.
