Sambal Station is a Malaysian restaurant in Auckland. We are seeking an experienced and passionate Chef to join our team at an authentic Malaysian restaurant dedicated to showcasing the rich culinary heritage of Malaysia. As our Chef, you will contribute to menu development and lead the team to deliver an outstanding dining experience.

You will be responsible for kitchen operation, ensuring high-quality dishes that reflect the true flavours of Malaysian cuisine while maintaining consistency, presentation, and food safety standards. 

The position is Permanent, working minimum 30 hours shifted Monday to Sunday to meet kitchen operational requirements. Due to the business nature, weekends and public holidays will require employees to cope with business needs, you need to accept the terms to work on weekends and public holidays.

Skills, qualifications, and experience:

  • NZQF Diploma  qualification or equivalent;

  • OR have at least 2 years relevant experience working at kitchen in New Zealand.

  • Has professional cookery technique to produce high quality dishes.

  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with both suppliers and team members;

  • Excellent time management skills.

  • Physically well to work under pressure during peak meal time.

  • Follow all hygiene and Health and Safety regulations 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Prepare the cuisine on Sambal Station Restaurant menu to a satisfactory standards;

  • Menu planning, design the menu regularly for Chef’s special based on seasonal material, to meet the customer preference.

  • Cost control, estimate the costs including the material and labour, minimize the wastage, to ensure the kitchen costs is under control;

  • Stock control, manage the stock level to meet the kitchen requirements, also to ensure the high quality of material are selected;

  • Prepare the foods to menu specifications using appropriate cooking techniques.

  • Monitor the quality of dishes, liaise with manager in regards to food preparation matters;

  • Managing and maintaining kitchen and staff

  • Training other kitchen staff to required standards

  • Keep the working area clean and tidy, ensure all health and safety procedures are adhered to.
