We are seeking an experienced and motivated Chef to join our busy Greek-Italian restaurant in Auckland's North Shore.

This is a permanent, full-time position for a passionate individual who takes pride in preparing high-quality food, maintaining excellent kitchen standards, and working efficiently in a fast-paced hospitality environment.

Hourly rate is from $30 to $32, depending on skills and experience.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Preparing and cooking a wide range of Greek and Italian dishes to a consistently high standard.
  • Ensuring all food is prepared and presented according to recipes, portion sizes, and presentation standards.
  • Assisting with menu development and introducing new menu items.
  • Monitoring food quality, freshness, and stock rotation.
  • Preparing daily mise en place and managing preparation lists.
  • Ordering food supplies and liaising with suppliers as required.
  • Receiving, checking, and storing deliveries.
  • Monitoring kitchen operations to ensure meals are delivered efficiently.
  • Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, and sanitation in accordance with New Zealand food safety regulations.
  • Assisting in supervising kitchen staff and ensuring compliance with kitchen procedures and uniform standards.
  • Reporting kitchen issues, complaints, accidents, or incidents promptly to management.
  • Working collaboratively with the front-of-house team to provide excellent customer service.
  • Carrying out any other duties reasonably required to support the efficient operation of the kitchen.
  • Comply with all workplace health and safety policies and procedures.

Skills and Experience

Applicants should have:

  • At least three years of relevant commercial cooking experience, preferably in a busy restaurant environment OR a relevant qualification.
  • Experience preparing authentic Greek and/or Italian cuisine is preferred
  • A good understanding of food preparation techniques, cooking methods, kitchen equipment, and food safety standards.
  • The ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
  • A relevant cookery qualification is preferred but not essential where sufficient practical experience can be demonstrated.
