Ashwin Ventures Limited operates a retail and food service business specialising in sushi and hot takeaway meals in Mount Maunganui. Due to increasing customer demand and business growth, the company requires two Chefs to plan, organise, and manage food preparation and cooking operations. These roles are essential to maintaining food quality, supporting kitchen efficiency, ensuring compliance with food safety requirements, and delivering consistent customer service.

Position Title: Chef
Number of Positions: 2
Location: Bay of Plenty, New Zealand
Pay Rate: $30 – $35 per hour
Hours of Work: 30 – 50 hours per week 

Key Requirements

NZQF Level 4 Qualification OR at least 2 years' experience. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and organise preparation and cooking of sushi and hot food items.
  • Prepare and cook food, including sushi rolls, rice preparation, and hot meals such as chicken and takeaway dishes.
  • Monitor quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation.
  • Estimate food requirements, manage stock levels, and assist with ordering supplies.
  • Discuss food preparation and service requirements with management and staff.
  • Demonstrate cooking techniques and provide guidance to kitchen staff where required.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations.
  • Maintain consistency in portion control, presentation, and quality standards.
  • Assist in training and supervising kitchen staff where required.
  • Support food preparation planning and daily production targets.

  • Cook and assemble menu items according to recipes and quality standards.
  • Prepare sushi rice, sushi rolls, and a variety of takeaway dishes.
  • Monitor food quality and portion control during preparation and service.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen work areas.
  • Store food safely and rotate stock in accordance with food safety requirements.
  • Assist with stock control and notify management of ingredient requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health & safety procedures.
  • Clean kitchen equipment, utensils, and food preparation areas.
  • Support the kitchen team to ensure timely preparation and service of customer orders.
