South Indian Chef & Indo-Chinese Chef Wanted! (2 positions)

We are hiring two permanent Chefs in Christchurch, Canterbury—one specializing in South Indian cuisine and one in Indo-Chinese dishes. Offering 30 to 40 hours per week at $29–$37/hr (based on experience). Candidates must offer strong flexibility to work rostered shifts, including early mornings, weekends, and public holidays.

What You Will Be Doing Day-to-Day:

  •  Responsible for preparing and cooking food items according to approved specifications and recipes, ensuring food is prepared on time and within designated schedules.
  •  Planning menus, estimating food and labour costs, and ordering food supplies.
  •  Monitoring the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation, cooking, and presentation.
  •  Discussing food preparation issues, daily operational needs, and guest feedback with Managers, kitchen staff, and waiting staff.
  •  Supervising tasks performed by kitchen assistants, demonstrating cooking techniques, advising on procedures, and assisting with training staff.
  •  Explaining and enforcing strict hygiene regulations; maintaining sanitation services, garbage disposal, and chilling systems; and checking all materials to prevent spoilage.
  •  Ensuring all kitchen machinery is operated, cleaned, and stored correctly, and keeping workstations, drawers, and shelves clean, safe, and organized.

Essential Skills and Attributes Required:

  • Proven expertise in either South Indian or Indo-Chinese culinary techniques.
  • 2 years’ experience in a fast-paced restaurant or a Level 4 relevant qualification in cookery, hospitality, or a related field.
  •  Personal pride in presentation, excellent cookery skills, and a strong appreciation for following kitchen systems.
  • Consistent performance under pressure and a positive collaborative attitude around colleagues and guests.
  • Must be flexible and available to work weekends, nights, and holidays according to the roster.
