We are a busy Indian restaurant located in North Shore, Auckland. We are looking for
an experienced Chef to join our kitchen team.
The successful applicant will have a knowledge of Indian cuisine, including traditional
Indian ingredients, spices, cooking techniques and food preparation methods.
This is a full-time permanent position with a minimum of 30 guaranteed hours per week
and the pay rate for this position will be 30.00 NZD per hour.
Key Responsibilities include, but not limited to
Plan and organize daily food preparation and cooking activities according to the
restaurant's menu and as per customer’s demand.
Prepare, cook and present a range of Indian dishes to a consistently high
standard.
Prepare curries, tandoori dishes, vegetarian dishes, meat and seafood dishes, rice dishes, breads, starters, sauces, gravies and accompaniments.
Prepare and portion ingredients, marinades, sauces, spice mixes and other food
components.
Follow recipes and established cooking methods while maintaining consistent taste, quality, portion size and presentation.
Monitor the quality and freshness of ingredients.
Operate kitchen equipment including tandoor ovens, ovens, grills, ranges, fryers
and other cooking equipment’s in a safely manner.
Check food during preparation and cooking to ensure appropriate flavors, texture, temperature and presentation.
Assist with menu planning and development of new Indian dishes where required.
Assist with food costing, portion control and stock control.
Monitor stock levels and advise management of purchasing requirements.
Receive, check and store food products appropriately and minimize food wastage.
Maintain food storage, preparation and cooking practices in accordance with
New Zealand food safety requirements.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation throughout the
kitchen.
Coordinate kitchen preparation and cooking during busy service periods.
Work with other kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth and timely service.
Train, guide and supervise junior kitchen staff where required.
Monitor the quality and consistency of dishes prepared by other kitchen staff.
Follow workplace health and safety procedures.
Report equipment faults, maintenance issues and food safety concerns to management.
Perform other reasonable duties associated with the position of Chef.
Skills and Experience
1) To be successful in this role, you must have either a level 4 or higher Diploma in
cookery/Hospitality or relevant field OR a minimum of 3 years’ experience can
substitute the qualification.
2) Ability to independently prepare and cook a wide range of Indian dishes.
3) You must be able to work in a busy environment.
4) Ability to work independently and as part of team.
