We are looking for a Chef to join our busy café in Wellington. You guarantee a minimum of 30 hours per week full-time role with competitive rates between $28 and $38p/h depending on your skills. You will be working according to the roster, which will require early starts and weekend work. Therefore, flexibility is essential for this role.

Track record of reliability and consistent performance essential.

The successful applicant will have great training and support from an experienced management team.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cooking breakfast menu
  • Excellent knowledge of cabinet food/range
  • Ensure food handling procedures are adhered to by all staff (FIFO).
  • Maintain waste at or under 1% through effective stock rotation and portion control.
  • Doing basic baking duties
  • Must be clean and organize
  • Work well as part of team
  • You enjoy a fast-paced kitchen
  • Food shopping/ orders
  • Recording food temperature
  • Assist head chef in working as a team to assure rush hours are managed well.
  • Inspect all preparation and cooking equipment on a regular basis to ensure that they are kept clean, sanitary, and in operating order work with the other members of staff and the owner in a professional and engaging manner.
  • Train and guide junior kitchen staff in food preparation and cooking procedures.
  • Develop and introduce new dishes and menu items where required.
  • Ensure dishes are prepared and served within required timeframes.
  • Check the quality and freshness of ingredients before use
  • Ensure communications between the kitchen and restaurant run smoothly
  • Be a highly motivated, passionate self-starter 

To be successful you will need to:

· Have at least 2 years’ experience in similar field OR a level 4 and above qualification in management or hospitality or a relevant field.

· Be a great team player, be able to follow instructions

· Be physically fit and willing to work hard

· Good eye for details and an ability to solve problems practically and effectively

· Have "can-do" attitude
