Chinese Delish Limited is looking for a Chinese Chef to join our team. As one of the busiest Chinese restaurants in New Zealand, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional dishes that delight our customers every day. We are seeking a chef who not only excels in traditional Chinese cooking but also has a strong ability to develop and introduce new dishes regularly.
This is a full-time permanent position. You will work a minimum of 30 hours per week on a rotating roster from Monday to Saturday.
Key Responsibilities:
· Prepare and cook authentic Chinese dishes to a consistently high standard, ensuring superior taste, presentation, and adherence to traditional Chinese culinary techniques.
· Plan, design, and innovate new Chinese dishes and menus, incorporating regional Chinese flavours and cooking styles, while updating selected menu items regularly to maintain customer interest.
· Utilise local New Zealand ingredients creatively in Chinese-style cooking, ensuring dishes are cost-effective, seasonal, and aligned with the restaurant’s quality and authenticity standards.
· Supervise and maintain high standards of food quality, hygiene, and kitchen safety, complying with local food safety and health regulations.
· Coordinate and work collaboratively with kitchen and service teams to ensure efficient food preparation, consistent quality, and timely delivery of dishes during service periods.
· Train and guide junior kitchen staff in Chinese cooking techniques, kitchen procedures, and food safety practices as required.
· Monitor inventory and control food costs, ensuring efficient use of ingredients and minimising waste.
· Perform any other reasonable duties as assigned by the employer.
What We’re Looking For:
1. At least 1 year of relevant work experience as a Chinese Chef or in a similar role, OR a relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification in Cookery or above.
2. A proven ability to innovate and create new dishes regularly, taking into account ingredient availability and cost management.
3. Knowledge of Chinese culinary techniques and a passion for both traditional and contemporary Chinese cuisine.
4. Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
5. A team player with good communication skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
