Mulberry Grove Store, Restaurant & Café is located on Great Barrier Island. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Thai Chef to join our kitchen team.

Key responsibilities

The role will include:

  • Preparing and cooking authentic Thai dishes, including food preparation, cooking and presentation, in accordance with established recipes and quality standards;
  • Applying traditional Thai cooking techniques and maintaining consistency in taste, texture and presentation;
  • Training and supporting junior kitchen staff in cooking techniques, food presentation, kitchen safety and hygiene;
  • Monitoring food quality throughout preparation and service;
  • Ensuring kitchen equipment and facilities are used and maintained safely and appropriately;
  • Maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness;
  • Assisting with menu planning, food preparation processes and kitchen workflow;
  • Providing input on menu development and improvements while maintaining the authenticity of Thai cuisine;
  • Assisting with food cost control, stock management and reducing wastage; and
  • Working collaboratively with the wider kitchen and front-of-house team.

About you

The successful applicant will ideally have:

  • A relevant cookery qualification or at least three years of relevant chef experience;
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and cooking Thai cuisine;
  • Good knowledge of Thai ingredients, flavours and traditional cooking techniques;
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills;
  • The ability to train, coach and support other kitchen staff;
  • Experience with food costing and kitchen cost control;
  • A strong commitment to food quality, hygiene and kitchen safety; and
  • A genuine passion for food and pride in delivering consistently high-quality dishes.
